How to start changing outfits
Outfit swapping stays locked until you clear the Scayl Buried Ruins raid on Erpp Island. After that, open the Gear menu (press +), scroll right to Style, and pick any outfit that isn't greyed out. The change applies instantly. Locked looks show up greyed out, which doubles as a checklist of what's left to chase.

The four amiibo-exclusive outfits
Four looks have no gameplay path — they only come from scanning figures:
| amiibo | Outfit unlocked |
|---|---|
| Shiver (Splatoon Raiders) | Hohojiro Fighting Gear (blue overalls) |
| Frye (Splatoon Raiders) | Onaga Fighting Gear (yellow palette) |
| Big Man (Splatoon Raiders) | Manta Fighting Gear (grey and green) |
| Any older Splatoon series amiibo | Bite Waders (orange waders) |
See the amiibo page for scan steps and pricing.
Fastest outfits to grab early
You don't need to grind. The three starting Mechanic outfits are free, and these come from normal progression almost by accident:
- Sparkle Prism — level 10 arrives fast.
- Super Squid Ink — first time you power up a tank.
- Red Paradise — when your hideout ship hits level 2.
- Crimson Punk — one weapon power swap.
- Camo trio — develop 3 Gadgets per tank type (ties straight into a stronger build).
The real endgame grinds are Clairvoyant Bot Pro (clear every dungeon on Super Spicy) and the Golden trio (Bottomless Buffet floors 30/60/100). Treat the outfit list as a side checklist and you'll fill most of it just by playing.
Frequently asked questions
Do outfits affect gameplay?
No. Every outfit is cosmetic only, with zero effect on stats, damage, or survival. Build your power through tanks, weapons, and gadgets instead.
Do I need amiibo?
Only for four specific outfits (the three Deep Cut Raiders figures and any older Splatoon amiibo for Bite Waders). All 35 other looks unlock through normal play.
Can outfits be mixed piece-by-piece?
No. Each look is a complete set you equip as one. You can't combine pieces from different outfits.
